Covers the relationship between workers’ compensation and other federal programs that provide cash benefits or medical care to disabled workers, including Social Security Disability Insurance, Federal Employers Liability Acts, Medicare, and Public Assistance. Also covers the relationship between workers’ compensation and other state programs that provide cash benefits or medical care to disabled (and in some cases to non-disabled) workers, including temporary disability insurance and unemployment insurance. Finally, covers the relationship between workers’ compensation and other programs provided by employers that provide cash benefits or medical care to disabled workers, including short-term non-work-related disability plans, permanent disability plans, pensions, and death benefits. The chapter also contains a brief discussion of disability insurance purchased by individuals.
