The following guide is intended to assist users in searching for information within the Rutgers University Workers’ Compensation Research Collection. The database can be searched in three ways:

  1. Using the Main Search Bar (retrieves records matching the keywords within records)
  2. Using the Advanced Search Option (retrieves records by combining multiple searching methods or fields within records)
  3. Using the Browse Resources by Category Option (retrieves records using the Subject Index)

Using the Main Search Bar

The Main Search Bar appears towards the top of the database’s homepage. Additional search bars can be found using the Magnifying Glass icon towards the top right of any page within the database. Using the Main Search Bar will retrieve all records matching on what was typed in.

To use the Main Search Bar, type in any combination of keywords, subjects, titles and/or authors to be searched within the database. Hit “enter” on the keyboard, or click on the Red Magnifying Glass to initiate the search.

Using the Advanced Search Option

The Advanced Search Option can be found directly below the Main Search Bar on the Homepage. The Advanced Search Option allows for the selection of keywords, subjects, titles and/or authors to be combined with any of the database categories, such as year, format, specific programs, states and/or subjects.

To use the Advanced Search Option, click on the “Advanced Search” button from the Homepage.

A listing of all records within the database will appear, and the options for filtering, or narrowing will be on the left-hand side of the screen.

Selecting on any of the filters, by clicking in the box, will change the overall results.

 

Using the Browse Resources by Category Option

The Browse Resources by Category Option can be found directly below the Advanced Search Option on the Homepage. The Browse Resources by Category Option allows for the selection of a specific category, for example, all the records covering one state, subject or program.

To use the Browse Resources by Category Option, select which category you would like to browse by.
